Mardi Gras Question?

Hi, I recently moved to Arkansas and I’ve always heard how cool and crazy Mardi Gras in New Orleans gets. I just read that it’s on Tuesday February 5th, and since I’m planning on going I have several questions that maybe somebody with experience might be able to help me out.

I’m planning to go on a weekend. On the weekend of 8th – 10th are there still parades and stuff? Or is the weekend of 3rd – 5th the last ones?

What hotel to stay in? I realize that it’s a vague question, but what is close to where all the fun is.

Any info appreciated!

Tuesday the 5th is called Fat Tuesday, then comes Ash Wednesday and it’s over. They don’t party then.

    Mardi Gras
    January 6 – February 5, 2008
The official beginning of the Mardi Gras season is Jan 6, which is called Twelfth Night (12 days after Christmas). On that cold night, a krewe called Phunny Phorty Phellows has their drunken streetcar parade down St. Charles Ave. Most of the big parades start two Fridays before Mardi Gras Day. From this point on, parades will happen everyday until Fat Tuesday.

Here is a list of parades.

You are will most likely have a hard time finding hotels this late as many book up a year in advance. You probably want to try to stay in the french quarter near canal street where the parades go by if you can find something. But anything in the french quarter should do.

no Mardi Gras after the 5th till next year.

check the internet and previous answers in this category for where to stay.

No you have to come down before or on Fat Tuesday to experience Mardi Gras, because on Ash Wednesday-its over.

All parades happen on and before Mardi Gras. I really can’t tell you what hotel to stay in….I would suggest a few located in the French Quarter, but I believe its too late now to reserve a room somewhere in that area-if there are any available it is going to be VERY expensive per night.

Just got back from a parade.
Saw so many boobs, and stepped on so many feet to get beads.

It’s so ridiculous how people will do the weirdest things for beads.

Any hotel will do, really. It will be very very hard to find, seeing as a Ramada Inn my friend is staying in is currently charging $250 a night for doubles.

Go on Tuesday, of course, that’s when everyone knows it’s the last day of the season. People go absolutely nuts and party their heads off. So much fun.

All of the parades end on Mardi Gras day. So, if you’re going, you should go from Feb. 3-Feb. 8. The good parades are then. The Windsor Court is an amazing hotel, but if you’re looking for something cheaper, make sure you are in a good neghborhood, because some aren’t too safe.
    Have fun!!!!!!

Mardi Gras day is the final day we have parades. If you want to come at all, you better be here by Friday, Feb1. You will get to see the big parades like Endymion, Bacchus, and Rex on Mardi Gras Day.

If you come on the weekend of the 8th, it is all over.

Tues. the 5th is the last day. So if you wanna catch Mardi Gras, you have to leave THIS weekend. There are LOADS of hotels on Canal St.
