How long is it taking right now to get a passport renewal processed? I live in the New Orleans region?

Looking into taking a trip to France in 22 days. Is it best to submit the passport and send through the ‘Urgent’ process or book an appointment at the regional passport office?

My son just applied for his passport and they said allow 8-10 weeks for processing. Hope that helps.

I would book an appointment as they are saying it takes 2 to 3 weeks for urgent passports. ***Expedite Service: Currently, Expedite Service takes 2-3 weeks to receive your passport from the date you applied. It may take longer for customers who apply for a renewal by mail without “Expedite” marked on the mailing envelope.http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/processing/processing_1740.html

It took me about 3 weeks the last time I did it. I live in Mexico and went to the U.S. Consulate.

It is currently taking 12 weeks for regular processing and 4 weeks for expedited processing.

The 22 days you have before your trip is too little time for either of the standard options. You need to make an appointment to visit the passport agency in person. Fortunately, there is a passport agency in New Orleans.

Call the office of your US Representative (Congressman) and ask for help making the appointment. Do that on Tuesday (Monday is a federal holiday).

    Good luck!
