New Orleans?

I have the opportunity to this summer to go to New Orleans to do hurricane relief, I have already signed up and paid but now my two best friends who were supposed to be going on the trip have new opportunites one has been invited to act in an amazing Film Festival and the others band finally got its big break and is playing with really well known bands the same week. I suffer from severe anxiety and panic disorder and there is no way i could go without them. They are not being selfish they have worked their whole lives for what they have been offered, I feel as though I need to go to New Orleans but I am not sure what to do. How do I know if its the right time or if its what God wants me to do? I know that I just need to pray and ask for him to show me, but I am SOOO limited for time. I need my answer asap. Help!

sweetie this IS the time for you to “Go with God”. NOLA is a wonderful town full of people that are welcoming and warm. Go and grow with God!!

It sounds like you need to get help for yourself before you put pressure on yourself to help others.

    See a good psychiatrist.

Perhaps the whole reason your friends got offered their positions is so you can go and grow and learn what you need to about yourself without their company as a crutch. Nothing happens without reason, and I believe you should still go. This will help you overcome your anxiety and panic problems if you use it to your advantage.
Stop seeing it as a bad thing and see it as the opportunity it is!

You will never be wrong if you go with God.

If you have the opportunity, take it. It may not come your way again. Take each moment as it comes and trust that God will give you the help you need to live with your disorder. My prayers are with you.

Speaking as someone who is still recovering from the afterrmath of Hurricane Katrina, I will say GO GIRL! Do NOT let your fears stand in your way.

contact the travel company dealing with the trip, and see if they can give you reassurances about others going, there may be many others in exactly the same position as you, I feel sure that you will learn to control your anxieties by confronting them, I think you should start to look forward to your trip, it could be the making of you. I wish you much happiness & happy travels

I think he’s giving you the opportunity to prove to your self you are a strong person, and he will be with you, you won’t be alone. Take Him at his word “I’ll never leave you nor forsake you.” You will get an amazing blessing from this mission work.
Even if all you get is the satisfaction of knowing you are a strong person it will be worth it.I say GO FOR IT! and enjoy it.

I went to New Orleans last summer for a week and had an incredible time! I am not one who likes to be away from home and I’m usually really really stressed about this kinda stuff…I knew with all my heart the Lord wanted me to go, so even though I had doubts I went. I have an incredible time of learning and growing in my faith! I would just encourage you to really pray and seek God in what He wants you to do and if He is asking you to go, even though you don’t want to without your friends, obey Him…He IS faithful, just trust Him.

This is a great opportunity for you to confront your own anxieties and grow more mature. But if it’s just too much for you to take, see if there are some alternate dates that you can go. There are so many in New Orleans who lost every material thing they own in the hurricane. Their needs are so great. They need to know that they don’t have to do this alone.

Who knows? You might meet some great people down there and just decide to stay there yourself!

I agree with coldgrey above, this may have happened to help you over come your fears, while helping people in need. You’ll make friends and get know people from a different part of this country. I feel for you though because I never go to far away places by myself, but last year I finally did. I went to Italy for 10 days with a my college, but the catch was I didn’t know anyone going, or anyone who knew anyone going, but in the end I had SO much fun, and met really great people. Go for it, this will be good for you.
