What to do about my exremely dry skin?

I am 14 and take prescription medication for the acne I used to suffer with. Though the medication I am using (Retina Micro) has worked , there is a problem. I was told to use the medication for four years and that my dry skin would be a normal side effect. This is my first time of use during the winter and the somewhat cold weather in New Orleans makes matters so much worse. Before the winter, noone could tell I had dry skin (I would just put lotion on one or two times throughout the day). Now, my lotion routine no longer works as well. This problem has started within the past few days, so none of my friends have seen it. Can someone tell me something I can do over the Thanksgiving holiday?

Hi i have been doing some research & heres what i found.
i have many more if you need more let me know!
Homemade face mask for dry skin
Avocados and honey are particularly moisturizing.
½ avocado (you can also substitute 2 teaspoons avocado oil)
    ¼ cup honey
Mash these together. Apply to skin and leave for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with a washcloth drenched in cool water.

Aveeno products are the best thing I have ever found for dry skin. I lived in S.Korea for 2 years and they have the worst winters I have ever encountered. Originally being from GA it killed me when I had to deal with climates like that so every winter I stocked up on Aveeno products. They are the best on the market. If I were you I would start with a bath treatment and when you get out lather up with lotion. They even have a moisturizer for your face. Check out the website and talk with your dermatologist about it. Good luck!

I have had very dry, sensitive skin coupled with severe eczema as a kid.
Last year my skin was so broken out from using the hot tub (we changed our chemical) and although I haven’t been in very often, I still suffer with dry, itchy skin. For me, it’s my legs that suffer the worst. Last year I had a major case of hives (at least that’s what I think they were).
I spend the extra money on products designed for very dry, sensitive skin with no perfumes. I have found that Gold bond body lotion is very helpful. I used the powder last year but just discovered the lotion this year. Both effective.
I keep my shower a little cooler and last year I had baths using Epsom salts.
I “dabbed” my skin with my washcloth, not rub it as it irritates it.
I even used baby products last year when I was so bad.
Aveeno baby products are excellent too.
A bath in baking soda will help.
Wishing you success in your situation.
Hopefully, when the winter is over, the situation will be over, at least for another year.

Have you tried Ayurveda or Traditional Chinese Medicine, in these both feel that dry skin is a result of having to much heat accumulated within the body. Another sign is chapped lips and dry brittle hair. You can do a google search for more info on this.
I also have this problem and have cured myself by eating correct foods that give the body more inner moisture and use a light scented sesame oil on skin after shaving and when I am almost finished in my bath or shower. I am adding a link here for you to look at to see if it helps your condition.
