“Carnival” time is the season between the Epiphany (Jan. 6) and Ash Wednesday. (Mardi Gras – French for “Fat Tuesday” – is just the Tuesday before Ash Wed the very last day to party.)

South Louisiana was settled by exiled French Catholic Acadians (”Cajuns”), so Lent is a big friggin deal the weeks leading up to it are one big display of debauchery. Kinda like a “last meal” before making sacrifices (like no beer or excesses) for Lent. So parades, drinking general craziness ensues. :-)

I haven’t been back to Carnival since Katrina this video really made me miss it. It’s just crazier than anyone can believe – you have to experience it firsthand! :-)

Thanks for posting. It looks like you edited the video to the beat of the music, and you did a good job. I do, however wish I could hear the people and street noise instead of the soundtrack. I’ll be there soon, and you helped get me in the mood since I’m in the office. But, the Spanish Town parade/parties here in Baton Rouge yesterday helped quite a bit too. Y’all come down! Things are jumping down here!

Mardi Gras is wonderful! Just all you out-of towners remember to stay in well lite area’s, and walk with groups. Don’t need any of you getting shot, there’s enought of that already.
